    Accessory wiring diagram & questions

Seems like the published wiring diagrams I have for the 53-55 cars do not show the "accessories" that came on every car - heater, radio, emergency brake warning. Does anyone have a diagram to share that includes those items or even a drawing they have made to supplement the GM versions?

I haven't looked yet but I'm thinking the 56-57 AIM might have some info of use. But wire color and gauge could easily differ on the 6V cars.

I purchased new emergency brake warning light leads from LL and see they are tan lacquered cloth covered. My "original" 54 wires have black plastic insulation, are 16-18 gauge, and are longer than the repro wires. The black wires appear to be longer than needed. If black wire is the correct original I'd certainly want to make new wire to match rather than use the tan wires I bought. Can y'all tell me what you've found in your cars?

Wow!! I have been wondering the exact same thing for years. I just was going to wait to buy the harness and see if there was more info regarding the accessories. Any way I can bribe someone for the accessory info??

The heater, radio and brake jewel are connected directly to the fuse block with fusable links.

The brake warning system has 2 wires to the bulb behind the jewel. One goes to the fuse panel. The other goes to one end of the flasher. The other end of the flasher attaches to the switch. So it must get to ground through the emergency brake rod/ratchet. Where does the ground wire come in?

The emergency brake is grounded to the dash support.

                  Depending on your number 54
1 pic is early 6V car assy =black wire screws on fuse box
2 53 early 54 turn signal assy cloth wires
3 54 have screw on fuse wire like first pic
4 top pic. is late 54 and 55 assy

hope this helped and I'm correct

Re: Accessory wiring diagram & questions

As it turns out the diagram has the heater and radio but not the brake warning. So the wiring color and gauge are still not nailed down.

I looked in the 56-57 AIM and see that both wires are shown to be tan in 56 & 57. Roy's photo of the 55 jewel shows tan wires. Lectic Limited sent cloth covered lacquered tan wires.

Roy's photos and my own knowledge of and research on accessory kits to install the brake warning light indicates black wires are standard.

So my conclusion is that the tan wired units came factory installed and the replacement/accessory over-the-counter units all have black wires.

                      No telling why they differ.

Cloth covered lacquered wire is probably correct up to mid 54 and plastic insulation came along after that.

Re: Accessory wiring diagram & questions

Upon further review of additional info from two more members it seems that all 53 and 54 e brake warning light wires were black. That's how mine were and that's what I keep seeing on them for sale on ebay.

The tan wires came in 55 and were used in at least through 57. I guess the fact thay Lectric Limited sells tan wires for the 53-54 is another error on their part that got me confused in the first place.

Re: Accessory wiring diagram & questions

The other thing that is not explained is why the tan wires they sell for this application are lacquered fabric covered and not plastic coated. 55 and newer did not have fabric covered wire that I'm aware of. Think that went out in mid to late 54.
