Anyone from the Tucson, Arizona area?

I am working through the owner history of our car. I have a title transfer date of June 11, 1973 from a DMV record in Arizona but no name because it is "blacked out" but I can tell the last name starts with ST so I thought if I could find a phone book from that time period and also an archived classified add from the newspaper I might be able to figure it out.
I also have the original Arizona licnese plate from 1973. I've talked to different people within the AZ DMV and they say they can't trace the VIN or the plate number. I also tried the police department.

Anyone have an idea where I can access these 1973 items?

Your help would be appreciated once again!

Deborah, the public library normally maintains back issues of telephone directories and newspapers. www.AutoAncestry.com advertises in the Driveline.

Local car clubs, garages, dealers, speed shops, etc. are also leads.

    Good Luck!

    Steve

      Deb,
If you don't have any luck with the library, let me know and maybe someone from the Arizona Chapter can help.

Re: Anyone from the Tucson, Arizona area?

        Thanks Dave,

I have not received a response from the library. I did read on their site that since they are funded by property tax only, local residents have access to the archives on line.
If I could get the pages (faxed or scanned to me) from a 1973 phone book that start with the letters ST that would be a starting point.
Also, I need to find a place that will copy the classifed ads from the last two weeks of May 1973/first week of June, so I can try to find a phone number. I think that would be my best bet. I know the bill of sale was dated June 11, 1973. I would guess that he saw the ad, checked out the car, wrote home for money The buyer told me he was down there working right out of college.
I have the 1973 Arizona license plate too, but nobody able to help me on it. RPN 543 (no tags yet at that time)

Your help would be appreciated, Deb

What was the buyer`s name? I lived in Tucson during that time and as a C2 owner may have known him.
If you can locate someone who will go to the main branch of Tucson Public Library, copies of the Tucson Daily Citizen and Arizona Star are on microfilm and views are available as is a copy service.

            Deb,

Try contacting the University of Arizona library. They may be a little more helpful. As an alum. , I know they also have everything you are looking for , or did when I went there.

Lastly ,send me the name of the buyer you spoke of, and let me know if you do find out who the seller was . It is a long shot , but I attended U of A from 72 thru 75 , so I might know one of them .

              Hi Jim,
I did contact the University Library this morning and they can send the info to my local library. One step further.
I would have to call the buyer back, but I don't think he went to school down there, sounded like he just was working in Arizona after he got out of college. His family in SD was in the used car business and he picked this car up. It's the seller from Arizona who's name I am searching for.

              Thanks for the tips!

                Deb,
Just got back from the main library in downtown Tucson, and they do have the sources that are needed.
However, before I go any further on the two different newspapers microfiche, I have a few questions. How about I send you a PM with my specifics and we can go from there?
I did get he phone book pages copied and I assume you want to reverse "engineer" the phone numbers.

                Regards,
                Dave

                      Update!

Thanks goes out to Dave Barclay for finding the classified ad from a 1973 Tucson newspaper. By finding the phone number from the ad he was able to look it up in the old directory and get me the name I was searching for.

I am grateful to Dave and all the rest of you who have offered suggestions.
