    C1 Quick Steering Adapter

Is there any disadvantage to this setup? Was it an original option or a dealer install? Seems like it would be great on any car without power steering or does it give it too much response?
    Thanks

Wonderful attachment to enable driver to build upper chest and arm muscles. Seriously, makes a car very hard to drive at low speeds due to the reduction in leverage of the stock steering linkage

I agree with Dick on this. The option appears to have been aimed at wheel to wheel competition applications where there's little low speed manuevering and it's desirable to have a more responsive steering profile.

In a daily driver application, expect to grow gorilla-like upper arm strength as Dick mentions!

Terry, I installed a quick steering adapter on my '56 about '58. At the time I was heavily involved in autocrosses against Healeys, MGA's. Triumph's. etc. these little cars were quick around the courses. HP was no problem for me but quick steering (as well as an added 4 speed) was certainly an advantage. Both are still on my '56! I don't know how easy it would be to steer otherwise, I've never regretted have the quick steer on my Corvette. Unless one ordered a Corvette with the race package in the early '60's the quick steer was installed by the dealer or owner. I love the quickness of it all. Regards,

          Re: C1 Quick Steering Adapter

About 1975 I accidently ran across a junk 60 with the fast steer adapter still on it. Bought it for $5 (but I had to remove it------not as easy as it sounds on a car that had sat for years in the open). It's been on my 56 ever since.
I have 15x6 GM steel wheels on the front with 225/75R15 tires inflated to 32-33psi.
Yes, it is kind of stiff when stopped or moving REAL slow. But once moving 2-4mph and faster, it is just fine.
Now, a word to you nay-sayers about driving a 53-62 with the fast steer adapter around town------------------YOU GUYS ARE A BUNCH OF SPOILED WENNIES. I'M 67yrs YOUNG AND FLOG THE 56 EVERY CHANCE I GET!

Oh ya, and I have a normal 67yr under developed upper body!

Does anyone know how much it changes the ratio? I assumed from the name (quick steering) it made driving easier by not having to turn the steering so far to get the wheels to turn, sounds like I am wrong.

If I remember correctly from past publications, it changes from 21:1 to 16:1.

Thanks guys for all the info, sounds like it's worth a try. Anything else to consider when doing this?

Terry, I also put a fast steering adapter on my '57 about 40 years ago for autocrossing and is still on the car. I don't recall a difference in low speed driving but I was in much better physical condition then. It was a great benefit in competition. It helps immensely when steering with the accelerator and full opposite lock, the way you are supposed to in a straight axle.

One important thing to remember when installing is to align it immediately. I wasted a new set of 7.75's within a hundred miles because I didn't and back then that was about $50.00!
