62 Under Deck Lid - Paint & Weatherstrip

Two questions: 1) 62 deck lid weatherstrip, what is the configuration of the original piece(s), one piece or two and how was it split?

    2) The 62 judging guide, fifth edition doesn't say much about the paint and hardware on the inside of the conv. deck lid. Were all inner lids painted body color and was the hardware on the lid when it was painted. I looked in Noland, both books and it is hard to tell on the b&w photos what was on the car coming down the line. Of course the hinges and springs were on the car but what about the latching pieces at the front center, including power top equipment?

David, weatherstrip per 61 P&A was all one piece, 300 inch long rubber part #3784214. Don't know about '62 under deck lid painting, but here's photos from red interior '57. Hope they help. Gary....

Thanks Gary, I have what I believe to be an original on my old car and it looks to be one piece - its pretty cracked and dry but I believe it is one piece. The repro seems to be two piece units. Does anyone make a one piece?

Thanks for the pics, they will help.

i would call the w/s a 3 piece in that it the main center part is hollow and each end is a molded piece, in the old days all you could get was a totally hollow w/s which was wrong, now several repo people have a decent part, as for the paint, i feel that the lid was attached during the paint process,so the hinge bolts would be body color , but the latches would be added later. so they are a goldish cad as i remember the manual calling out.

David, I believe Doug is right on! I still have the orig weatherstrips from my 62, The deck w/s is 3 piece as Doug said, I just don't know if the 3 pieces were molded together, from the mfr, or it was cut to length & ends glued on at assy. 61 & 62 are completely diffrent from 56 to 60 weatherstrips.
Years ago I also helped with a low mileage "California 61" It was the same as my 62.

I can't speak to this specific issue, but in general there are times when a given AIM calls out 'mods' to a particular weather stripping component..requiring them to be 'cut' or 'notched'. I suspect these assy mods were done on an as required basis to help the hollow weatherstipping 'out-gas' during its compression and facilitate 'bounce free' closing of moving surface the weatherstrip was intended to seal...

I am working on an original 62 and the original on the car now has molded ends and one joint on the drivers side 17" down. There is no indication of a joint on the other side. This would be a two piece weatherstrip.
There is no paint on the hardware for the top but paint on the hinges and bolts.

For the 56 to 60 deck lids....Just to clarify...... was the under side of the lid painted the exterior color or the interior color?

So, it sounds like the reproductions may be similar to the original. Without ripping my old one off it does look like there may be a second piece on the driver's side as you say. I believe page 327 of Noland shows that the front latching mechanism was not on the car when the deck lid was painted. Thanks guys.
