    1962 Front Wheel Cylinders

Does anyone have a current AC Delco part number for the front right and left wheel cylinders on a 1962 corvette?

David, I dont know if you have the original wheel cylinders in you 62, but I brought a set of rebuilding kits for for a 59 I did this past summer, there easy to do, as long as the bores are not pitted to badly, I was able to hone the cylinders out and replaced the seals.

As far as Delco goes these days there not the same as they use to be,you can go to your local parts store and purchace a set, and they may be the same as the Delco ones, they do alot of reboxing parts today.

As far as I can tell, there are no currently available GM or Delco wheel cylinders for your application. As Edward has mentioned, even if there were Delco-available cylinders, they would almost certainly be the same product as sold under other brand names in a Delco box. No GM or DELPHI entity has manufactured these wheel cylinders in MANY, MANY years.

As a matter of fact, you may even have problems finding these wheel cylinders under most other major brands. The only brand that I can find that currently offers them is Dorman. In this brand the front left is W14493 and the front right is W14494.

As Edward also mentioned, it's very possible to rebuild what you have. Even if the bores are damaged, they can be stainless steel or brass sleeved, just like 65-82 calipers. With new pistons and seal kits installed, you'd have better-than-new wheel cylinders.

I have the originals and plan to have them rebuilt some day. One of the front cylinders has a stuck piston and the other has bad pitting. I have been surfing trying to find a reputable company to rebuild the old ones; I heard that I need to watch out who I send them to. Can you recommend a business that does a good job of a complete rebuild including new sleeves and new pistons?

                      Interesting......
I went looking for the original part numbers for the wheel cylinders and came up empty in the AIM and the Service Guide and even in the Judging Guide. Nothing even mentioned in any of them about the brakes at the wheels. Wheel cylinders, shoes, hardware, nothing!
                      Why is that? Just curious.
If you had a part number you might find one on ebay or other auction sites.
Just a thought. I am in the same boat.

The wheel cylinders were part of the spindle or axle assemblies, so you won't find them shown separately in the AIM. I would think they would be depicted in the Chevrolet Service Manual, though, but no part numbers will be shown in that reference.

The original wheel cylinder part numbers for 1962 Corvettes were as follows:

                        front, left----GM #5459518 (may be cast 5459527)

                        front, right---GM #5459519 (may be cast 5459528)

                        rear, left---GM #5459918

                        rear, right---GM #5459917

Joe's casting numbers are correct. Rears are both cast 5459965--just machined differently to get the different part numbers.

Buy a set at O'Rielly's or other parts store and rebuild the originals at your leisure.

                              John,
The point is you can't just go out to O'Reilly's or any parts store and buy 1 3/16 wheel cylinders. They and everyone else want to sell you 1 1/8".
That's why Joe indicated that there is only the one brand that sells those, and you can't find those just anywhere.
