Rear Spring Liners

I am in the process of rebuilding the 7 leaf HD spring in my 65 coupe. I believe the spring is original. It does not appear to have been apart before, however, it had a liner between each leaf. Has anyone seen this aparent anomaly. It was my understanding that there was no liner between leaves 6 and 7.

I've scanned the archives as well and I can't find the posting I remember. But I swear I've read or heard of at least one similar report.
