    Russo and Steele auction

Anyone here have reports on the rain/wind storm that seems to have destroyed the tents and damaged several cars?

Received an email early this morning from Sports Car Market with the following content:

"Two tents collapsed tonight (January 21) under strong winds and heavy rain at the Russo and Steele Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. The tents had housed many of the cars consigned to the auction, which began January 20 and is scheduled to run through January 24. No injuries were reported, and damage to cars inside the tents is as yet unknown."

our 62 was in tent #2, i'll be interested to see how it fared, the word i have is that if the main tent stayed up the auction will continue, if not it's over.
i arrived about 15 minutes before the 1st tent went away and they had already closed that part of the auction, it's a shame, Drew is a nice guy and didn't need this in his life, like wise with all the collectors who had cars there.

Last night they said some concessionaires tents went down but they did not report any car damage.

You bought a car & now there is damage, you have not had time to tell the insurance co. you bought a car. Will it be covered ?

It should be. But I guess it is up to your Insurance Co. Every time I was serious about buying a car or was going to bid on a car I informed my Insurance Agent of my intent. She always told me that the car would be insured for the sales amount...

                      Re: Russo and Steele auction

I have attended Russo and Steele Auction for the last several years and never experienced weather like this. It rained over 4 inches on Thursday and the wind was blowing up to 50+ mph. I was in the main tent where they auction the cars when the first tent went away. Drew announced to the crowd to exit not only the tent but the premisis as well. There was no panic just lots of folks trying to get way from the remaining tents. Then the second tent went down with portions of it flying to the 101 freeway and stopping traffic. My guess is that there are at least 250+ cars under each tent. Many of the convertables had ther tops down so as the evening rain storm continued I'm sure it created a vertual lake inside. Side note......the one off Tucker convertable, top up, was under the second tent to go down. I spent some time talking to the owner. What a piece of art. Over 4000 hours to finish. He told me they were looking for about $2 million.
There were over a dozen aid and fire vehicles on the sight within minutes. The police are not allowing anyone into the auction sight today as there are over 100 workers attempting to get the tents upright. Hard to say how much damage was done to the cars. The tent upright polls are very large plus there are numerous large lights that had to land somewhere. I plan to go to the auction tomorrow and will pass along any additional information.
As a side note prices on the cars that did cross the block were definatelly down.

It's too bad, but they're only cars. Over in the right column is an article about a 6 year old boy that was swept away.

                            Re: Russo and Steele auction

                            Dear Friends and valued Sellers,

As a result of the severe storm that hit Scottsdale on Thursday evening, the Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction has been temporarily closed due to sustained wind damage.

I would first like to thank you for your kind patience as we work with the City of Scottsdale Officials to inspect the area and allow us to re-open. I clearly realize how difficult it has been to wait along with us to finally get on site. The safety of our clients is of utmost importance and we are working diligently to re-open and accommodate your needs.

Our top priority is servicing you, the collector, and to ascertain the status of your collector cars that are on site in Scottsdale. I would like to personally invite my Consignors to a Consignor Only breakfast briefing on Saturday, January 23 at 8 a.m. at the Russo and Steele Auction site at Scottsdale Rd. and Mayo Blvd. in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Due to pending approvals by the Scottsdale Fire Marshall, this briefing will be open only to the Consignor of Record. No additional attendees or guests will be permitted and this briefing is not open to the public.

Tomorrow is devoted exclusively our consignor clients. My entire staff and many contract resources will be on site to assist your needs, no auction will take place on Saturday. Once we have determined the status of each vehicle, we will proceed with assembling our Sunday (and possibly Monday) Auction Program pending fire marshal approval.

Please know how much Josephine and I appreciate your patience, understanding, and efforts to work together as we soldier forward. Again, please, ONE person per car(s) only, as this will expedite our consignors' personal service.
Sincerely, Drew Alcazar Co-owner and CEO

here a a few shots of some damaged cars at the Russo and Steel auction,
Drew and crew did a great job of getting things up and running and had a pretty decent sale, lots of cars didn't get a scratch while others got beat up pretty good, just a matter of luck and where you were parked.
The black 67 was a 435 top flight car, the only damage on the car was were the tent spike was driven into the lh fender, very neat hole, mother nature is strong lady.
