    C1 Shifter

I am looking for a 4 speed shifter (Borg warner) for my 58. Does anyone know if these shifter are specific to the corvette or if there are other applications? I have looked at the cc shifter and I am not crazy about the price. Is the cc shifter correct?

The shift arm is specific to the Corvette. THe lower body is used for other GM 4-speeds of that vintage. The shifter arms and rods have some interchange, but not all of them, with GM 4-speeds of that time. The reproductions are right on, and have been for a number of years. There's really only two ways to go--repro, or wait till you find an original, and then rebuild it to take the slop out of it.

Try Paragon. Vette Products of Michigan repro's them and I think he is the only game around. Other vendors are just re-sellers. I bought mine from Paragon

Hey Mike I have a 58 4 spd shifter that has LOTS of slop in it. Are there any threads in the archives on rebuilding it or places to send it to for rebuilding? Thanks David

If I'm not mistaken, the ONLY 1958 GM vehicle to have a B-W T10 4sp was the Corvette.
There has been much debate about the 58 Chevy pass cars having an optional 4sp, but the hard core 58 Chevy crowd will beat you to a bloody pulp if you try to tell them that a 4sp was available in a PRODUCTION 58 Chevy full size pass car. Most likely, they are as knowledgeable about 58 pass cars as the hard core NCRS crowd is about Corvettes.
Thus, MOST PROBABLY, the ONLY 58 GM vehicle with a 4sp, was the 58 Corvette. Therefore, again MOST PROBABLY, the only 4sp shifter for a 1958 GM vehicle was the one attached to a B-W T10 4sp in a 58 Vette. Finally, MOST LIKELY, the only parts you're going to find for your car's 4sp shifter are from another 58 Corvette. The 4sp shifter (for a Corvette) changed in 59.
