Presented are a few PICS of the reproduction plastic rivets after installation. A couple years ago, I purchased a GM service replacement ignition shield (top and bottom) for my 69 L89 restoration project. It is typical flash chrome you would expect to see on a factory piece, very uneven with some areas missed completely. Although it was exactly what I wanted from a chroming and configuration standpoint, it did have the clear plastic shield on the underside of the top along with the white plastic rivets you see on the current reproductions.
Later, I found and purchased an original top with original clear rivets (yellowed) and the original opaque shield on the underside. Although the shield was nice, the rivets were in pretty sad shape and unusable. Later, I saw, on the Corvette Forum, a thread about a fellow reproducing the rivets. 1970-72 NCRS Team Leader Stan Falenski, asked the fellow several questions about them and ended up with some examples to examine. Stan liked what he saw and ended up with a few sets. Later, I asked Stan if he would swap out my incorrect rivets and shield on my service piece with the new clear rivets and my old original shield. Being a good friend of mine, Stan said he would be glad to do that. At the FL Regional, Stan brought the finished product and I wanted to share with my fellow NCRS members the result.
Nice and clear like they were about 40 years ago before being exposed to prolonged under hood conditions.

Original opaque shield.

Flash (poor) chrome with missing areas.

I am very pleased with the results and believe this represents, pretty closely, how the assembly line piece(s) would have looked. I recommend these rivets to anyone looking for the historically accurate look.
Regards,
Mark
