    Holley 3367 Date Code

I've been on the "lookout" for a date coded 3367 Holley for my '66 L79 for many months (have a replacement carb on now). I believe the correct part number that I need is 3884505. My car was assembled on March 15th - can anyone tell me what date code ranges I should be looking for???

Second question - anybody have one available that would work??? Thanks!!!

Tom, do you have a Holly 3367 replacement on the car now. I put a new 3367 (correct for my year L79 66 ) last year. I still have the old carb. It is not the original one, long gone (replaced in 1972 by me). I will check the numbers on it. My car was assembled on April 29, 66

I believe the six month rule for judging applies for carbs but a couple of weeks would be more realistic. I'm sure you will get more experienced advice on dates. Check the rebuilders a lot of them have supplies of correct dated carbs.

          Re: Holley 3367 Date Code

Peter is dead nuts on (6-month rule)! The engine sub-assy shipped to the final assy plant without engine 'bolt-on' components (carb, starter, Etc.). These items were pulled from existing inventory and installed at St. Louis and you'll see them called out as assy line items in the AIM book.

While 2-6 weeks may be 'typical' for carbs, there's a Catch-22 issue here. These parts were NOT ordered one at a time on an as-needed basis. They were typically ordered in batches (economic order quantity) to allow the suppliers (Holley, Carter, Rochester) the benefit of building them in 'batch' runs.

So, some of the more rare carbs (say, L88) can have SUBSTANTIAL deviations in dating as they arrived in a minimum batch lot and sat in inventory at St. Louis...

            Re: Holley 3367 Date Code

Thanks to all for the replies to this post. I've found what appears to be a correct carb that may be available. The Part # reads as "3884505 DA", with a 621 date code (Feb, 2nd week?) - not sure what the "DA" stands for??? Anybody know???

The "DA" suffix on the part number is the alpha broadcast code Engineering assigned to that particular carburetor; it appeared in the "Carb" box on the Chassis Broadcast Copy.

That date code is the first week of February, 1966.

What does a 174 date code mean?

                  1971
                  7th month
                  4th week?

                  thanks,

                    Re: Holley 3367 Date Code

Well acorrding to the 66 judging manual on page 67 they list the first digit as year and second digit as month 1 through 9 indicates Jan to Sept. with 0=Oct, A=Nov and B=Dec. Third digit equals week. I don't know if and when Holley might have changed their dating system, maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in. Sincerely Brian

                      thanks,
That's correct - Holley changed to the 4-digit Julian dating format in 1973.
