    judging without joining NCRS

I am only 25 and still live at home with my dad who is a NCRS member and for the last couple of years we have been attending a lot of local NCRS chapter meets and having his cars judged and learning how to judge our selves. I have enjoyed this experience and learned things I have never would have thought about. now the time has come for my dad to enter both of his cars at a regional event close to home. the thing is I would love to judge to get the points and experience. but they are saying that I can no longer judge using my dads NCRS membership. I would like to join NCRS but there is no point in getting duplicates of all the publications and I don't own a Corvette that is worthy of being judged. what is the age cut off for the family plain to judge.

I am pretty sure the age cut-off is 23.

If I told you how and why that age changed from 18 up to 23 in several steps we would have a riot on our hands.

The thinking when that decision was made (and it happened while I was Editor, thus I was at those board meetings) was that for most folks the youngsters were out of the house by that age. Given today's economy and the advent of boomerang children that situation is now different. And I say that with a daughter still at home who will be 30 soon.

I think it's GREAT that there are younger guys and gals interested in the restoration and preservation of these old cars. Go ahead and pull the trigger on that NCRS membership and start building up the points! I sure wish I had started earlier. The only required duplication would be "The Restorer" and "The Driveline". You and your dad can build yourself a library of TJMs and other AIMs for your various cars and interests that you can share, along with garage space. Sounds like a great situation to be in! Chip.

Don't look at it as receiving duplicate publications. Look at your dues as an investment in the hobby. There is a severe shortage of young people willing to get involved. You are the future. make the investment now and you'll be glad you did. Thanks in advance !!

it is indeed a fun hobby. I helped dad restore is 67 when I was younger and now he helped me restore my 66 SS 396 Chevelle that is just about done.

I joined my 14 yo son as a member a year ago (#50001) a year ago. Yes we receive 2 sets of publications, but I don't worry about it. It's not like I can find anything in his bedroom anyway.

Let me say that Keith is a great young man, who has been an asset to the Mason Dixon Chapter.

He and his father, Richard are very active in the hobby.

                      Hi Keith,
I think you should join and have your own identity.
I'll bet the library in New Oxford would put your RESTORER and DRIVELINE on the periodical shelf if you dropped them off. I'll aso bet that they both would get some attention knowing how much of a car town New Oxford was and is. They might even encourage some new members!
                      Regards,
                      Alan
