"Model A News" Jan-Feb 2010. Technical questions by Roger Kauffman, Technical chairman.
Abbreviated QT from a member of the Model A Restorer's Club:
I live in Southern CA and on hot days some will have problems with vapor lock. Some put clothes pins on the lines. Some insulate the lines. Some throw cool water on the line to cool the gas back to a liquid.
"What is your outlook on this situation?"
Answer: Vapor lock is caused by extreme heat transferred to the carb and surrounding parts from the engine. etc etc.
Clothes pins and wrapping the fuel line do little to prevent or cure the problem. I recommend adding one gallon of diesel fuel to a tankful (10 gal) of gas in your Model A. This raises the boiling point of gas enough to help present vapor lock problems."
Thought you Corvette owners would find this info timely and interesting.
Another old time solution is add some Marvel Mystery Oil to your gas. (and your oil) Read directions on the plastic bottle. Yeah the old tin can that Marvel used since I was a kid is gone. JD
