    67 door opener question

The door openers that have the ball attached to them on the door panel don't seem release enough to get the door opened. I have to put my finger in the door panel and push a bit to get the door to open from inside the car. Can someone tell me how to adjust or fix this?

    Thanks

If the release bottoms against the door panel bezel you need to adjust the release knob assembly. Another possibility is the rod and holes in the release arm are worn.

If wear is the issue I weld up the hole and drill a new one a bit more forward of the original hole. This basicly takes up for wear. Insure knob post is not contacting bezel opening in both extremes with door panel in place. Also check release pivot for wear as this causes the lever to twist slightly reducing release action. I repair/modify my release but that is more involved and easy solution is just replace it.

Check door latching to insure the pawl and catch are not dragging against each other. Could just need latch adjustment on pillar post in door jamb.

I will check the adjustment first.

If your door opening knob is "flopping" around inside the bezel of the door panel, you probably have a broken return spring on the door opening plate under the door panel. This makes it hard to adjust the door opening stem in the door panel bezel. Make adjustments so you get full travel in that bezel. See picture of one I just replaced. Old broken spring shown too. It is possible to just put a "bend" in that long opening rod to get the full travel you want. Not sure how long it would last...eventually the rod might stretch back out. Someone is advertising a tool to do that which would be more permanent. I have found most problems are in the door opener plate under the door panel.
