    RC15 Radiator Cap Rivet

Does the 1970 L46 radiator have a cap held together with a hollow or solid copper rivet? Does it have a flat or v-shape depression? I am trying to find an original that will pass NCRS judging. Thanks.

I would say that by 1970 the rivet of an RC15 will be flat in design. As a note, it is made of brass, not coppper

Duane if your car has a coolant tank and radiator that is Aluminum it would be an RC-26 with an Aluminum recessed rivet. If it is a brass/copper radiator it would be an RC-15 solid Brass rivet with a slight raised ridge at the outer edge. Also the arrows that point direction should be closed at the arrow tip end. A line across at the start of the tail. Paul 18046

Paul, I think that you were the judge that judged the "Mechanical" for my 1970 Bridgehampton Blue L46 at the Sevierville, TN NCRS Chapter Meeting in October 2009. As you can see, I am still trying to improve my car and greatly appreciated your help and insightful comments. Do you have any ideas on where to buy an NOS radiator cap? Thanks.

I still have quite a few very nice used ones.
NOS is going to be VERY expensive.

A good used one is fine.

Here is a picture of a very nice original 66-67 RC-15 cap, it needs a new sealing gasket but everything else is very nice. I am looking for a nice RC-26 that's in V/G condition for my 67 300hp car and will trade if anyone is interested.

Really nice caps show up on ebay. There was a beautiful restored cap that just sold for about $175.00.

Why would the RC15 cap have a Brass rivet and the -26 an Aluminum?
