    Because the RC15 goes in a brass radiator and the RC26 goes in an aluminum tank. Google "galvanic corrosion." If you look at the internals of the two caps there are more different materials than just the rivet.

      Terry has hit it right on the head most people look at just the outside portion of the cap. Early RC-15 used Brass materials on the underside sealing structure other then the gasket and spring. Later RC-15 at first used a mix of Brass and Stainless Steel till it went to all Stainless steel other then the rivet and gasket.
