    Quick Steering

    Hi, Guys,

I have a question about Quick Steering Adapters. My 1961 had one on it when I bought it. I'm trying to get the car to NCRS standards. I am hearing conflicting opinions about whether this is a factory option in 1961 or not?

I would kind of like to keep it if possible.

    Thanks,

    Jack

Well, yes... and no. It was available but only in conjunction with the heavy-duty brake package and only with the 270 hp or 315 hp engines. It was not available as a standalone option.

      Hi Bill,

Interesting. If does not appear to be a big brake car but does have the 315 HP. It was used as a drag racer in one of it's lives. Even then I can't see how they would have removed the big brakes. I don't imagine back then that it would have shown up in the vin# or any other visible reference except for the brakes themselves?

It looks original. Could they have ordered it? Would it be a deduction?

      Thanks for your reply.

option 687 in '61 included brakes and steering, so it would be a deduct either for incorrect brake drums/backing plates (missing) or added equipment (steering adapter). The steering adapter was a pretty easy add over the years, much less fuss than the HD brake package.

Where did the car come from?

I added one to my '57 in the mid 70's for auto X'ng in about 30 mins. All it took was a little $$ and a realignment.
