C-2 Hardtop Question

I am in the process of re-doing my '66 hardtop headliner. My vinyl is in great condition and I want to re-use it. Other than GlassWorks, can anyone tell me where I can get a new headliner back that I can re-attach my vinyl to?? GlassWorks basically wants to sell me a complete new liner.

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread, but I am interested in doing this same thing. I have nice original old vinyl that fell off of the original fiber board(?) backing. Who can do this kind of work or provide the backing my headliner can be used with?

Anyone know what years they put vinyl on the fiberboard? My 63 seems to be just painted fiberboard - no vinyl.

The problem is, when you spray glue on the back of the vinyl, it will wrinkle. You will need to be very careful and spray very lightly. Hopefully you will be sucessful. You will need to remove all of the old celulose or whatever the heck that stuff is, and replace it with a very thin foam.

If the glue has a solvent base, yes. Someone must have done this before, clean off the hard board, roll on contact cement, flash off the solvent and stick on thin foam, then repeat with the vinyl. Can be messy for sure and well aware of a 15 year old car where the foam completely disintegrated due to heat and oxidation and its a mess to re glue. The alternative is a thermo-setting adhesive similar to what is used by the OEM.

My experience is, when you put any contact cement on that vinyl, it shrivels up. I have done a few, but with little success.

I've now seen two more tops with this textured vinyl on the inside - is this 30 year old restoration material, or is this the real deal?
