I have been noticing for some time now in all the TV and radio commercials they say CHEVY. They don't say CADDY in Cadillac commercials.

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
Now IS a good time to try and move in on Toyota and Honda's "squeeze", what with the media searching for every scent of a recall possibility. But, like the politicians, they don't understand the public...advertising and fine words aren't going to close the deal...delivery of top notch products will, and they're coming along.- Top

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
Just turned in our leased 07 Caddy CTS for a leased 10 Chevy Malibu (times are tough ya know) and was amazed at the fit and finish of the Malibu over the CTS. Never had 1 issue with warranty or maint. items on that car. Both have the same Diamond White paint and leather interiors, but the Malibu seems a better value for the money, at least for right now.

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
They're trying to reestablish an intimate (and exclusive) relationship with mainstream America. The objective is to recover some of the market share lost to imports while they snoozed...you know, snuggle up and "drop handles", as in "Hi ya, Ralphie; I'm Chevy".

I'm guessing the one you don't have to worry about parking close against muddy pickups with chrome plated roll bars, exhaust stacks, off road lights, and step bars that come up to the middle of your door?- Top

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
Ralph------
I don't think that they're "phasing out" the Chevrolet name. They're just using "Chevy" for this, particular advertising campaign. It's not the first time they've used it, either.
I believe that "Chevy" is a registered trademark owned by GM. However, I do not think that "Caddy" is such a registered trademark. It's more of a "slang" term.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
The OP asked a simple question about the usage of the word chevy, and you take it as a opportunity to interject your misguided view on immigration policy.
I don't think this is the proper forum for such drivel, It's supposed to be about the enjoyment of our favorite hobby, the corvette, and as such I am offended by your insensitve remark- Top

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
Roy;
I apologize. Guess I was just trying to play to the overwhelming consensus on the board about being P.C.
Truth is, most anywhere south of the border, i.e. Mexico, Central America and South America the word "Chevy" is far more recognized than is "Chevrolet", and it would make good marketing sense for GM to play to that market. Therefore, I humbly wish to amend my post to read "friends" in place of "invaders".
Truth is I don't see what this entire thread has much to do with Corvettes anyway.
Have a great day. Try not to be too sensitive.

Re: CHEVROLET name no longer used
Kentucky Fried Chicken changed to KFC playing to the modern text-message communication popular with their target market. Trying to keep up with the times, Radio Shack is now just "The Shack". Nobody buys radios anymore. Pizza Hut is now "The Hut". They sell chicken wings and pasta too. Federal Express became officially FedEx after they went global and foreigners could neither pronounce nor identify with "Federal". No telling what GM corporate has in mind for Chevrolet but its probably just that common folk have been calling them Chevys for 99 years.- Top
