Installed dated coded shielded plug wires, where do the ground lugs go on the cap end

On the distributor cap end where do the ground lugs go?

I haven't landed any of the groud lugs yet I know on the engine side they go between the bolt and the triangle spacer but not sure on the other end.

    thanks!

Brandon, what yr / engine code are you working on? my 68 AIM shows the following if this helps you out:

They go on the studs on the top shield mounting brackets

Your assembly manual would be best reference......however someone may correct me here but believe the ignition wire grounds will attach to each ignition stand. Either side the of the intake manifold. If yours is like my '66, there is a small stud on each stand for attachment of the lugs as you call it. Here again mine is a '66 but believe they should be similar.

Ah! completely forgot about my AIM manual.

and it's for my 68, I'll pull out my AIM manual!

          thanks

I might be the only one that has a problem with the aim manual sometimes but I can't tell what the gound lugs actually go to looking at my AIM.

It's just not clear, it's clear where the other ends are gounded to but on the distributor end the picture isn't clear.

Patrick, what page in your 68 AIM is that 1st picture from? like H what? Not finding that exact page in mine. thanks

Do you have the stands that the top shield mounts on? If so, there are studs that stick up for the eyelets to attach to.

yeah, not the best art work to go from.

Basicaly, if you look on page H402 towards back of AIM, the part called out as "existing support" (second pic i sent shows this part) there is a small stud to the right - near the opening for the square rubber gromet.

This stud is on both side- slightly diff location on opposite side.

When the supports are inplace inside the shield asm, the little towers should be there for you to hook up to.

Send pic if things are still not right.

                    Good point!

I belive these are oragne and were painted crudely with a brush-please correct me if I am wrong though because I plan to finish mine that way.

Yeah I have the original sheild and shield supports which are orange...I'll check that page in my aim too, thanks!

The distributor shield mounting brackets were painted orange. If the intake is painted orange the distributor shield mounting brackets were painted orange with the rest of the engine -- no brush. If the intake manifold is silver, the brackets were brush painted orange.

Bead blast the supports that hold the grounds lugs and painted them with quanta orange paint..went to install them and I'm not sure how they were installed before.

PLEASE don't tell me they go and are supported by the back intake manifold bolts..breaking those loose and putting them back to torque spec doesn't make me feel to good.

I hope thats not where they go! any input?

That is where they go. Don't worry about a manifold leak...be more worried about excessive torque cracking an old manifold.

Thats was I figured..hey I know for a fact it goes on the rear intake manifold bolt on the passenger side but what about the drivers side? seems like it could nearly line up and use the coil bolt..

I think thats where mine was when I took it off but thats not to say it was supposed to be there either..

so on the drivers side does it go under the rear manifold bolt or no? I know it does on the passenger side.

AIM manual doesn't cover this, thanks!
