    Calling Brian Pierce

Mason Dixon has an upcoming chpater meet on March 28th - have an individual who wants to have his 1977 judged - he has BLUE block and says the stamp pad is painted blue - he does NOT want to remove the paint - he says codes all readable without removing the paint - understands he will probably lose points for not being able to determine condition of the pad, and possibly more points - believe he wants / has registered for Gettysburg and possible sign-off for BOWTIE

HE SAYS HE HAS SENT YOU SEVERAL EMAILS and you have NOR responded, so I chose this avenue to get a response

The pad was painted at Flint and stayed that way. Why would he have to strip it for judging?

Brian has allegedly been out of town for several weeks due to work issues.

        Have him CALL him instead.

Or, call Roy Sinor as he would also be able to weigh in on this.

          Rick,
Tell your friend to relax. The blue engines did not have the pad protected and as a result the pad will be blue. It is easy to determine that the Flint Assembly stamping has paint IN the stamp marks and the VIN derivative does not. Anyone who understands the Corvette assembly process should be able to look at those stamps and knowing the assembly process come to the proper conclusion. The beautiful part of that is it is extremely difficult, if not impossible to duplicate.

Don't get your shorts in a wad over the broach marks. The original paint was usually thin enough to see them, except for those cases where they are almost invisible -- and then they can't be seen even on the orange engines. We have had that discussion more than a time or two here.

Kudos to the owner of that 1977 for sticking to his guns. Tell him not to pay attention to anyone who wants him to clean the blue paint from his pad.

              Rick,
I happened to be the 1970-1972 Team Leader at a Regional in Connecticut when Brian first encountered one of these. He called me over to look at the car in question. I can't tell you what year that car was, nor the year of that meet -- but I remember the details of that pad like it was yesterday -- maybe even better than if it was yesterday.

That probably says more about me than I want it to, but .....
