Re: tires
Hey Pork Chop ! Welcome aboard.
I don't have my 72 JG here at the office today, but your tire size was F70x15. You would have had blackwalls as standard. Whitewalls or white letter as optional tires. I don't recall the specific brands right now. No radials available until 73.
Here is how reproduction as well as radials would be scored.

Re: tires
Pork Chop, the original tires on the 70/72 cars were either Goodyear speedway nylon cord or Firestone super sport wide ovals,
Currently the only reproduction tire that close to orignal is the goodyear speedway wide tread.
The current radial replaced would have to be from Goodyear or Firestone P215/70R15. there is diameter and tread width requirements also , this is how the judges determine what the deduct is.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: tires
Some (a few) 1972s got Tiger Paws, isn't that Good Rich? Oh heck, buy the 1970-72 TIM&JG (Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide) from the NCRS store. We wrote all that detail stuff down so that people like me with NCRS disease don't need to remember.Terry- Top

Not sure if they were used or not, but a Tiger Paw would have been a Uniroyal.Tom Hendricks

Re: tires
Yep UniRoyal it is and I have seen three or four of them in the spare tire tub of 1972s. If I remember right Drew Papson had one and Ken Berry had another. (See, Ken, I remember the tire, but not the battery.) I have pictures of Ken's but I think they are old fashioned negatives and paper pictures, but I'll look on my desktop when I get there.
BTW: It really is in the 1970-1972 TIM&JG. I know ink on paper is old fashioned to a lot of you guys, but it is the way we used to communicate, and we will continue that for some time. It went into the TIM&JG in 1993, so it is not news, or it shouldn't be.Terry- Top
