    1968 firewall removal and install

First my front clip is off so no worries about that, I ended up removing it all becuase of previous bad repairs.

Anyway I have some windshield frame rust I need to fix RH lower corner is rusted out and I need to get in there and see just what Im working with but right now im planning on replacing that lower RH frame corner.

It looks like to do this right I will be removing the firewall so I can gain access to the spot welds on the frame to remove the bad metal and installing the new corner.

Now here is my question where do I get correct replacment pop rivits that I will have to drill out to remove the firewall that will pass as being correct when I reinstall??

I have a past life that I worked as an airframer on US Marine Choppers so I have used plenty of rivits thats the easy part I just want to find the correct style for this job.

    thanks

I guess we are unsure just what pop rivets you are talking about. Pop rivets can be found just about every hardware store.

Oh I know I can find some just wondering if anyone had experience with this and had a certain part number that would be good.

Im sure I can get ones that will be close enough.

But the rivits im refering to are on the top and run along the firewall side and go into the windshield frame, they would be under the wndsheld wiper door.

Ill try to snap a pic tomorrow of what im talking about.

John, if you have the 68 AIM, you have the part number, but that information won't be of any help to you.

Those pop rivets, like others on the car, don't look any different to me than the usual specimen you find at home stores. The trick will be finding the right length and material for the application. As I recall, those are like 3/16" diameter shank, aluminum rivets. Aluminum may be a little harder to find than steel. If you have a large selection of pop rivets on hand, you're ahead of the rest of us for finding exactly what you need.
