Have confidence that the effort required to restore this car will make anything that anyone here has done regarding Corvette restoration look like child's play. I'll even bet that they won't be able to find a single necessary part on eBay.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Chris------
I think it will involve, basically, building a new car around a few salvaged pieces from the original. Of course, since it will be done from an original car (with, presumably, original data plate, serial number, etc.), it will constitute a "restoration" as opposed to a "replica". The buyer paid an awful lot of money just to have that "starting point" and "legitimacy", though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Bugatti recovered after 72 years
That "Risky Business" scene was filmed at a dealer's a few blocks from where I used to live. I did not know it until I saw the movie. I knew the showroom/service department well as my son had an old Audi that he had serviced there. Just a ways down the street (Ogden Avenue, Hinsdale, IL) is the Ferrari Dealer (former Jack Douglas Chevrolet). We used to call that area "The Candy Stores".
Glad to hear the new owner of the Bugatti will display it in a museum as there really isn't much left to salvage in a restoration, from what I can see.

Re: Bugatti recovered after 72 years
There's an excellent feature article with lots of photos of the Bugatti, its recovery and plan for restoration in the latest volume of "Automobile Quarterly". As JB would say, "it's the real deal".
