    C2 Vent Window

After checking the archives extensively , I can't seem to find how to remove the window (glass and SS trim) from the chrome frame. It is all removed from the car. Although it appears to be a simple straightforward task, after applying substantial downward pressure on the rubber w/s it's not enough to clear the top pivot pin from the hole it's inserted into. How long is that sucker? I don't want to force too much and break something. It's a 64 convertible.

Your procedure is correct. Try using some WD 40 to help loosen it up. Don't break the pivot pin you don't want to have to get that fixed.

Bob, everything is loose and moves freely. Just a matter of pushing down hard to compress the rubber. I thought about cutting it out of the way as a last resort but was kinda wanting to save it for the museum.

It will compress and the pin will come out just take your time so you don't break that pin. You might want to put a heat gun on the rubber to soften it a little. I replaced the rubber on my car but I was able to remove the vent window without damaging the old rubber.

          Jim,
One other trick that can be tired; bring to glass company and have it removed from frame thus getting lots more compression in the frame.

Thanks Bob, I'll try the heat gun since the old rubber is stiff, I figured that was the culprit. If that dosen't work I may take it to a glass shop as Allen suggested, then they can also remove the glass from the trim. What do they use to do that also?

I would definately have a glass shop familar with older cars work on removing the glass. I think it is just a press fit but you don't want to break the glass.

Removing the vent glass from the frame is a snap. All you do is once the S.S. vent frame and glass is removed from the cast vent frame use a heat gun to warm the S.S. trim as there is an adhesive tape in the channel. once the frame is heated up take the assembly and catch the top edge of the frame on the edge of your work bench and pull the glass down away from the frame. If you take you time and heat the trim up the glass will walk right out.

There was an article last year some time about the installation of the glass in a vent window. Someone made a wood form to hold the frame in position. I don't remember whether they used a vice to press it in or tapped it in place. If you have access to old restorer issues you could look it up.

I am changing the frame, not the glass so I will use the same as is.
