Re: Installing rebound straps on C1 57

David, please see my comments. There was a GRRRREAT team of NCRS Members who participated for two years in the 5th edition JM and I was fortunate enough to be the consolidator of their information. Hopefully, I understood your questions? Gary....

"1. The "normal" installation is to be considered as the AIM shows (flared ends facing each other)."
No - the normal installation is the photo in the 5th edition JM, rivets installed with rivet heads at the rear, flare to the front (not facing each other as in the AIM illustration) or as the 5th edition JM says "installed pointing towards the front of the car".
"2. The text of the Judging Guide is being revised where it says " .. rivets are normally installed pointing toward the front of the car." to correlate with the above, to something like ".. rivets are normally installed facing each other".
Not being revised - the 5th edition JM wording is correct and not being changed
"3. The figure in the Judging Guide is revised accordingly."
Not being revised - photo in the 5th edition JM is what a Judge would normally expect to see
"4. Photos of original rivet deviations from the above orientation are suggested for judging purposes."
"5. The Judging Guide text will still contain some revised wording similar to the existing language, perhaps something like "However, there may be variances since original cars have been noted with the flared side of the rivets pointing away from each other."
Not being revised - the 5th edition JM wording is correct and not being changed

Gary, I go along with Dave and thank you and all responsible for the new judging manual. I know that had to take a lot of work. Thanks again! Brooks Glover (2141)

When I did the frame-off REBUILD (NOT restoration) of the 56 back in 74, I totally eliminated any question of rivet orientation on the straps---------------------------I used 1/4-20 bolts/nuts. It made the installation sooooooooo much easier!
