    Transmission ID

I just got a 4 speed transmission setup and was hopping someone could tell me a little bit about it.
The information I found on it is:
    Main Case 3851325
    Tail Shaft 3846429
    Side cover 3884685
    Top of case 824P285708
    Bellhousing 407

There was a number stamped near the side cover but someone stamped over it. It looks like it may have been 10706

Well, looks like 1964 case and tail, 66-68 side cover. Not sure on the stampings.

      Re: Transmission ID

I have been looking at these recently.

The 824P number is the VIN.

Depending upon the year the P date is on the drivers or pass side. Would need to see a picture to help you further.

Bob --- '64-5 main case; side cover off a '66-8, tail housing off a '64 Chev product, or many years for Pontiac (passenger side speedo takeoff). Bellhousing is probably "403". I've seen (on eBay) many with the VIN derivative starting with 824Pxxxx, and since they always seem to have the '429' tail housing, I assume that they were Pontiac or some other GM line.

Thanks for the reply, the next question I have is will this bolt into my 63 and will the 63 shifter bolt onto the tail piece.
The speedo is on the drivers side.

The VIN derivative stamping says it was originally installed in a '64 Pontiac built at the Pontiac, Michigan assembly plant.
