The mystery of the damaged right side of my brother's car has been explained. I found two more previous owners today and they were lots of help.
Mr. Peter Candler of Atlanta, GA purchased the car March 17, 1975 fully restored and in June or July was hit broadside by a "transfer truck", also know as a tractor trailer. The bumper of the truck was so high that it never touched the frame of the Corvette but did take out most of the right side including the door. The insurance totaled the car so Candler bought it back from them and then sold it as salvage to Mr. Wesley Huffman of American Corvette Service in Powder Springs, GA on September 2, 1975. He went to his friend Byron Cooper at Cooper Corvette in Knoxville TN who had a IVORY '62 that was mechanically beyond repair. He bought the car and cut what he needed out of it to repair my brother's car. From mid front fender to mid rear fender including the door and floor and gas tank bulkhead. He did the repair and sold the finished car back to Byron Cooper at Cooper Corvette on January 10, 1976.
My brother purchased the car March 31, 1976.
My next call was to Byron Cooper but he had gone home for the day so I will be calling him Monday to see if he can fill me in on any of the history of the car. I would still like to know why the original transmission is not in the car and maybe he can shed some light on that mystery.
I sent a letter to the Florida Dept. of Motor Vehicle with a check to pay for services I asked them for and they have cashed my check so I am hoping that means that someone is searching for the previous owner from Florida.
And the story continues!
