    choke cable stuck

I bought a cable from the well known Texas guy and the thing is stuck in the open position and I've tried everything to make it move. Whats interesting is the cables move a little in the sheath. ive poured lubricant down the cables but it must be stuck in the upper housing. I tried putting it in the vice carefully but that only seperated the threaded portion from the housing. Dont want to use too much heat. Any guesses? Anybody recondition choke cables?

    Re: choke cable stuck

In my experience the hood pull and choke pulls almost always get hung up in the upper housing rather than the sheathed cable area.

If this is an original part you should see a spot weld holding the upper barrel to the lower barrel. Carefully drill this out and pull it apart. You can refill the hole you drilled with a small drop of JB Weld after you've made the repair.

Thanks Troy. I have it apart but not sure what to do to unstick it. Cant really see in there, not sure exactly whats hanging up. Dont want to press to hard and damage the knob as its not intended to come off

Guy, might try to unstick the cable with Kroil oil from www.kanolabs.com or Torque CB recommended by Dr. McCagh from http://www.kimballmidwest.com/Catalo...aspx?dn=80544c Gary....
p.s. might use Jay's name instead of saying from "Texas" - there are some good guys in Texas

Thanks for the tip Gary and your right, there are alot of good people in Texas, I lived down there for 10 years and found them to be some of the friendlyest people around. Jay does a pretty good job too!

Grab hold of the knob shaft down low and pull it out of the housing to expose the ends of the cables. The cables should come out with the shaft as they are attached to a disc on the end. Use pliers with tape on them to get a good grip without marring the shaft. If you do mar the shaft you can dress it up later with a jeweler's file and sandpaper.

For some reason the little knobs on the ends of the cables get quite sharp and dig into the interior of the housing when pulled up. This is more of an interference problem than a friction problem and can't necessarily be fixed with lubrication. May need to dress the little knobs down to smooth them out so they don't gouge into the metal casing.

Grossmuellers will restore these for you if you want them to work perfectly. Brad.
