Re: Rear ride height too high

How's this for ride height? There's a new Eaton 9 leaf in there. I'm hoping it'll relax a bit once I start putting the car back together.

The original spring on my '71 cracked at the hole for the trailing arm bolt at high speed. Trust me, the last thing you want to hear at 100+mph in a convertible is your rear spring cutting loose, digging into the asphalt and tearing your diff cover off. It sounded like a bomb going off as the one side of the car dropped. I thought I was going rubber side up.

I'd rather deal with ride height issues than trust a old/used spring again.

      Hi Tom,
I was VERY surprised with the ride height with the car mostly apart. I was MORE surprised how the various pieces brought the ride down in increments as the car was completed.
Remember that the ride heights in the AIM are measured with a full tank of gas too.
      Regards,
      Alan

I retrieved this from an earlier thread where I called it the dune buggy look. This was a bare body with steering column & wheel, hood and headlight doors, and empty doors.

That sure does look familiar Alan. That makes me feel a little better about the possibility that the spring will settle down to an acceptable level.
