    Engine Assembly Plant Codes

In 1967, I see 4 different engine assembly plants and their pad stamp codes as follows:

    F-Flint Motor Facility
    K-McKinnon Industries
    T-Tonawanda
    V-Flint Engine Plant

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all Corvette big blocks were made exclusively at Tonawanda, and that plant did not build small blocks, correct?

What about Corvette Small Blocks? Any/all of the 3 other plants? I'm surprised that there are 2 Flint plants, did they both produce the same engines?

    Thanks,
    -Jack

    Jack -

Tonawanda was the sole source for all big-blocks, and they also built a full line of small-blocks for passenger cars and trucks (but no solid-lifter small-blocks, and no Corvette small-blocks). Tonawanda was also the sole source for Corvair engines from 1960-1969, and the sole source of the Vega 4-cylinder engine from 1970-1977.

All Corvette small-blocks came from the Flint V-8 engine plant ("F" from '55-'66, "V" from '67-up). Flint Motor ("F") built only in-line 6-cylinder engines (the "Stovebolts"). The Flint V-8 "F" was changed to "V" in 1967 due to warranty paperwork confusion with two engine plants (that built different engines) having the same "F" prefix on the Protect-O-Plate.

There was one more - the Saginaw Service plant ("S"); they built only generic replacement Service engines in low volumes - none for production.

      Thanks John.

Curious about what K-McKinnon Industries made, now that you've given me the whole story on the others?

McKinnon made SBCs, most which went into Canadian made GM products of all types.
