    blackout paint

Anyone have a suggestion on blackout paint to use on mufflers for the best factory look? and what to use in the wheelwells to generally clean up without removing undercoat??

    Robert,

I'm sure others will chim in on this but I use a high heat flat black, something like you would spray your outdoor charcoaler. Have used this process on the last 3 exhaust systems.

Any good quality low gloss black paint will work in the wheels welds.

      Robert:

I've always used Krylon semi-flat black (#1613), but this is now harder to get and the new formulation on the retail store shelves is different. Supposedly this paint (or a similar formulation) is still available as Krylon Primer #K01613. When I run out of 1613, I'll be using SEMS #39143.

There has been a lot of discussion on this, try this link to the archives: https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...=SEMS&uid=9355

        Paul/Robert,

I've used the newer version of the 1613, new item #51613 (if I recall correctly) however finish is satin black as comparted to 1613 being semi-flat black. As far as the Sems #39143 Trim Black(?) matches the color hue of 1613 but question it's durability.

That being said was able to purchase less than a month ago (original) Krylon 1613 at Graingers which is a commerical sales company offering many industrial items. One can go onto their web site : http://www.grainger.com drill down through their listing of products and find 1613 offered, cloest location to you or can be ordered and shipped.

          Mike:

Thanks for the reminder about Graingers. I forgot about them, although I think it was mentioned in the thread that I gave.

I've never had a problem on the mufflers with 1613. The temps just are'nt high enough to burn it off.
