    Zerex G-05 Availability

Results of my search for Zerex G-05 in the Boston area today.

    Carquest has it for ~$14/gallon.
Autozone and Advance do not carry it.
Pep Boys used to carry it, but no longer.

Mercedes and Ford dealers Parts Departments should also have an equivalent. G-05 is a HOAT type antifreeze.

Never had a problem getting it at any parts store. Schucks/Kragen has it for $15 gal., at NAPA it's less than $10 gal.. I don't know about the "red stuff" as the Zerex is clear.

Forgot to add, this is in the Seattle area.

Have NAPA order it for you. It can usually be at your local NAPA store within a day or so after it is ordered.

I found the Zerox G-05 at NAPA, what I am having problems finding is the Peak brand mineral-free water that I use to mix 50% with the zerox..

          Tim:

Simply buy any name brand DISTILLED WATER. Essentially the same, and cost is less ($$).

Either one will work very well, and much better than tap water.

As Larry said, you can use any distilled water, although it does not need to be a "name brand". Your grocery store has it. However, I've always used tap water and I've had no problems...none.

If you want to use distilled water -- any from the grocery store will be fine. Many people can use tap water, if their water does not contain too many minerals. Most people on a municipal water supply will have good quality tap water, but if your supply comes from a well, even a municipal well, you might want to consider the distilled water from the grocery store.

It's best to minimize the amount of undesireable minerals in the ethlene glycol - water blend in order to minimize long term harmful effects such as electrolytic corrosion.

Distilled water, usually available at grocery stores, drug stores, and big box stores is typically priced in the range of a buck to a buck and a half a gallon, and a 50-50 blend will require about two gallons for a SB and a bit more for a BB.

Thanks for the info on the distilled water, I had no idea grocery stores carry it.

I have a well and there is no way I am taking a chance with my old block and new Dewitts radiator.

Wal-Mart has the distilled water. They once many years ago sold Prestone distilled water in the automotive section. Did not stay as a regular product for sale.

Distilled water. Most grocery stores carry it. Mine hides it in with the bottled water.*

If your grocery store doesn't have it, your big box pharmacy will - CVS, Walmart, Walgreens, etc.

*(Cracks me up. The grocery store now dedicates almost a full side of one aisle for the many kinds of bottled water. First time I noticed it, I was reminded of a Third World country. Dont' get me wrong. I'm glad we're offered a choice, but who buys bottled water from Fiji? If you really want to do this right, you should drive out to St. Louis and get a few gallons of tap water.)

                        I prefer my "house" brand.
