    Tire Deduction Need Clarification

Last year at a regional judging I had an 18 point originality point deduction:
    - 4 Michelin radials on car (6 x 4 = 24 total points x 75% = 18 point deduction)
    - 1 Original Goodyear space tire 6 points = 0 deduction
Total originality deduction = 18 points

    - 4 Firestone or Goodrich
    - 4 black wall
    - 4 DOT
    Total originality deduction 6 x 4 = 24 total points x 10% = 2.4 points. G/Y spare = 0

    Help is appreciated. Thanks

    Ron

    Ron -

The spare tire doesn't have to match the four road tires; the spare and the road tires are judged separately on their own merit.

            John;

Are you saying that cars came off the assembly line road & spares didn't match?

Nope. All five tires and wheels matched in production, but the judging standard deals with them separately and doesn't require the spare tire to match the road tires (but the wheels all have to be the same).

Were your road tires size correct for the vehicle?

                        HaND
It was a Goodyear Power Cushion white wall from Kelsey Tire. So, from that standpoint, both the radial Firestones on the car and the bias ply spare were non-original. BUT, both were original brands...

Good point. If we're judging "as it left the factory", didn't they leave Flint, St. Louis & Bowling Green with five matching tires???

I think they allow a non-matching spare in an effort to encourage owners who only have original spares to keep them, rather than throw them out so all 5 tires will match.
