    Go nuts for lugs nuts

I've come to expect some wacky auction results on eBay, but this one raises the bar just a tad....

I think the real winning bidder here came in second...

I don't know, I have seen many sets that were not NOS go in excess of $100 recently. These waffle pattern ones are not even the most "desirable". I believe the ones with the concentric circles are the most sought after.

I need to get out to the junk yard.

I know one original 1969 that did not originally have this style lug nut. This was a part being used by the "mega-millions" across all GM car lines and for many years (until supplanted by metric size). I'm sure there were a number of different suppliers. The waffle pattern was likely a means to identify ONE of them.

In my opinion, the only way to know what style was supplied on a particular car is to have the known-originals from that car.

here's a variety I have; the sides on the KO's have one or two lines. The other five are standard nuts, and all different markings.

And if "someone" ever gets a peek at the drawing for these there should be a chart that identifies the supplier and marking.

Gotta love the seller's statement that they're "correct for NCRS and Bloomington judging"; I guess that flies if you have clear plastic wheel covers or center caps. He's an Honor Graduate of "eBay Marketing 101".

The bidders made it happen as the starting bid was one cent.

And the graduate level course is: "add the word Corvette" to your post title.

Marketing comments are all too true, even though some of these parts were never used on a Corvette.

While there are some sellers that just do not know, others know and inflict their junk on the unsuspecting. Its unfortunate a buyer cannot block dishonest sellers.
Its about like the vendors that sell a part as NOT being a restamp because there never was a stamp on it to begin with.

Blocking dishonest sellers would kill Ebays listing numbers, but it sounds like a great idea. I'm sure we could come up with a short list.
You can block bidders from bidding on your items. I have a number of bidders I have blocked as they tend to never be satisfied with what they buy.
Corvettes are a hobby to me so when I sell extra parts I don't want to get into a contest with unhappy buyers.

Re: Go nuts for lugs nuts

In this case, I don't know that the seller's description was dishonest or misleading. This style lug nut was used on Chevrolets of the 60's and, probably, 70's. I don't think the seller said that these were used exclusively and are the only correct ones. He may have IMPLIED that and/or some buyers might have INFERRED that, but I don't think it was stated that way.

It's quite possible that someone will be removing ORIGINAL lug nuts, of some other manufacturer's ID, in order to install what they regard as "correct" lug nuts. If so, that's their folly. In any event, they will be installing period-correct lug nuts, whether, or not, their car was ever really equipped with them. Of course, they're paying a lot for period-correct lug nuts, especially since they'll never be seen in judged competition.

One other thing here: these lug nuts are not only period-correct but they are NEW. Many lug nuts on cars are quite worn due to galling.
