    Numbers question

    Hello All,
I have a 62 and the engine and transmission numbers are off by 260. I assumed that the engine and transmission were swapped at some point. I was recently told that the engine and car serial number never matched exactly. This was because the bodies took longer to make than the engines. Can anyone shed some light on this.
    Thanks

    Hi John !

I believe the facts you heard are incorrect. The numbers should match.

      Re: Numbers question

      John -

The engine had the VIN derivative stamped on the pad while it was going down the Engine Dress Line at St. Louis, to match the specific car it would be installed in; the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the pad matched the last six digits of the VIN plate welded to the steering column.
