Re: Newbie with a 93
Walter, sometimes an exhaust leak can sound like a lifter, check the exhaust manifolds for loose or broken bolts, sometimes they tend to back out through the years of expansion and contraction.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: Newbie with a 93
A 93 is a nice car!!
I had a 92 with the same tick sound. I owned it for about five years and it always had that tick sound when it was generally cold. But when it got warm it generally went away. The always ran good and the tick never effected the performance.- Top

Hi Walter !!
Welcome to the NCRS board ! I have bought and sold HUNDREDS of these cars and have never known them to have lifter issues. Not to say it can't happen, but I sure doubt that is what you are hearing. Keep us posted.Tom Hendricks

Re: Newbie with a 93
Walter,
Congratulations on your purchase! My wife and I haved owned our 40th since new and are very happy. We also had a ticking noise on the drivers side and found that the #7 valve was damaged due to a loose rocker nut. We had a little over 26,000 miles when this occured. It wouldn't hurt to have this checked as it may save you some money down the road.
Good luck,
Joe- Top

The camshaft was changed from 1992 to 1993 for just this reason. Apparently, the ticking sound annoyed too many people. So, there were TWO fixes for it. First, as mentioned, the camshaft profile was changed. Second, the "composite" valve covers replaced the magnesium type used for 1992.
The 1992 LT1 camshaft was GM #10168506. The 1993 LT1 camshaft was GM #10224241.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Check the AIR fitting that threads into the exhaust manifold. Very often, these will get quite loose and may cause an exhaust leak.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
