In real life it looks as bottom land failed first then second and then top. No I will not use old pistons. That could very well could be part of the problem, 43 yr. old metal. Although I have other cars 79 yrs. old that have not had this kind of problems, but run much lower CR. I am confused how land clearance could get smaller. I suppose carbon build up would be the only way. The top piston ring is snug in the grove now, after the damage.
