Source For 53-54 Water Pump Rebuild Kit

I'm sort of "out" of the 53-54 scene since I sold my 54 several years ago.

The current owner EMailed me. The water pump needs to be rebuilt.

He asked if anyone sold a kit, or if there is anyone doing this service.

Any help and guidance will be appreciated. Thank you.

Mr. Mock has a paid advertisement in NCRS Driveline for water pump rebuilding.

I know that Bill Mock rebuilds them. (Does beautiful work too)

The new owner of my 54 is located in/around Miami, Florida, and he wants to TRY to do it himself.

If he/I can't locate a kit, I would not hesitate to recommend Bill Mock.

I'm not familiar with Moto, Doug.

I'm sure that Bill would sell him the parts to rebuild it. About the only way to get parts to rebuild a waterpump is to get them from a professional rebuilder. The parts are usually available but they are not packaged for retail sale. They are supplied in "bulk" quantity to professional rebuilders.

Now a word of caution: I'm all for folks trying to do things themselves. However, I don't think I'd recommend that an amateur try to rebuild a 53-54 Corvette waterpump. These pumps are EXCEEDINGLY RARE (Corvette-only) and one doesn't want to risk destroying one in the process of "learning how to do it". If I were going to try rebuilding that waterpump, I'd want to obtain several of the more common passenger car pumps and practice on them first. Then, when I was confident I could do it and learned all the "failure modes", move on to the Corvette pump. Otherwise, let Bill do it.

Joe, I agree with you 100%, BUT I asked the question that was asked of me.

I think I'm just going to suggest that he send it out, because those 53-4 6 cylinder water pumps are worth their weight in gold.

He should keep this in mind: if he sends it to Bill and for some unforeseen and unlikely reason it is destroyed while Bill is rebuilding it, Bill will have another to replace it with. If it is destroyed while the owner is rebuilding it, then Bill will have another to SELL him.

                How true, Joe.

I sent him another EMail with my thoughts, and he's now going to send it to Bill Mock.

I've seen those pumps sell for $1,000.00 +/- and that's a lot of money to spend if you mess one up rebuilding it yourself.

Remind him to insure the package fully.
