    HELP..Date code on a 2818-1 corvette carburetor 4 numbers?

Can anyone tell me why the date code on a carburetor is 4 numbers where most are three? The stamped numbers are: 3849804, list 2818-1, 0494. So do I read this as 1960, april 9th day, but still have one other number 4? Help!

So help get this strait the 0 means nothing, then 49th day, and the last number 4 means the year 1964?

        Not quite.

The first three numbers are the Julian date -- the numerical day of the year. In this case the leading zero is a place keeper. So the 49th day of the year is February 18.

The four digit numbering system began in late 1972, so the last number 4 is a year ending in 4 after 1972. So it is 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004. I expect at some point production of these carburetors stopped, so some of those years may not be possible.
