    65 oil assembly question

I have a 65, 327 in which I removed the oil assembly. I was doing an oil change and just wanted to clean it up. I did not take notice on which side the small incased spring in the assembly unit should be positioned. Should it go towards the engine or the fender? I looked in the AIM sheets but did not see any detail showing this. I did not want to guess and have an oil problem. ( I know Murphy is in the garage with me and if I guess he will make me pay). Thank you for your help all info is greatly accepted. Joe

    Joe,
Not sure I understand the problem, but if you are refering to the filter bypass assembly, install it with the spring loaded movable button facing down. Engine or fender makes no differance. Bill

I assume you are referring to the oil filter bypass valve. The 67 overhaul manual shows the valve toward the fender. I will email you the picture.

Thank you much. I didn't do the best job at verbizing the problem but you hit the nail on the head. The spring part I assemble no problem but when I removed it from the block I did not notice if the offset for the spring was towards the fender or block. I didn't want to assume anything. Thank you for the clarification. Joe

          Bill -

It could just as well have shown it the other way - it doesn't matter which way it's installed.
