They make it very clear up front that POR-15 is not UV stable. But for frames and under the hood that is not an issue. I use it as a primer and top coat over it. No solvent will touch it, which I consider a good thing. When used with Metal Ready I believe it makes a very durable and long lasting finish, as Peter has found. I have not used the Eastwood product so I cannot comment on it. -Dan-

I can't remember the trade name, someting like .... phos, but, the first time I used it, it didn't look like it was working.
      Mike -

Probably "OxySolv" (Eastwood) or "Ospho" - both are basically phosphoric acid; I've used both over the years.

I use metal prep that can be bought at any auto paint jobber. I always use it before plating. Most of the time you can soak your fasteners in it and not have to glass bead. Saves a lot of time

Safest Rust Remover has worked wonders for me. It is one of the best products I have ever used and would highly recommend it to anyone needing a rust removal solution. I can't believe it did not work for you.

I also love the Ultra One Degreaser that they also sell.

            FYI:

Rid Rust now Safest Rust ph=5.25 $35/gal

Rust Clean by Amazing One in Howell, MI gone
            Evapo Rust see orisonllc.com or orisonmarketing.com ph=6.1 done working at 7.0 $21/gal
            CLR ph = 2.0
ZEP at Home Depot ph = 1.0 (cheapest)

Or if the part is large start with the Baking Soda reverse platting method, use steel bar in a baking soda water solution and battery charger.

None of these methods are fast and some heat shortens time.

The RidRust witll remove the black phos finsih, but 90% of the time will leave all the other marks.

The least expensive-yet-works solution for steel that is harmless to paint, chrome, plastic is simple: molasses and water, 1 part molasses to 10 parts water, drop it in and let it soak. Feed grade molasses is cheap in bulk. It will work on cast iron, also, but leave it in too long and it will begin to break it down.
It works, I was surprised, better than electrolysis, though not as fast.

Eastwood just came out with a new rust dissolver gel. Quart Pt no 12096, Gallon Pt no 12097 Have never tried it, but I would assume that soaked rags would not have to be used.
