There is a set of Ansen knock off wheels for sale on another forum. I'm interested in them but don't know anything about them. I believe the seller stated they were offered as a dealer installed option. Does anyone know anything about them? My 65 is far from ready for NCRS judging but I'm curious as to how a car would be affected when judged with these wheels?

Re: Ansen wheel question
In '65 buyers had the choice of standard steel wheels with wheel covers or the optional P48 cast aluminum knock off wheels. The KO wheels were supplied exclusively by Kelsey Hayes and they COULD be purchased over the counter via GM service. But, that was it in terms of GM/Chevy approved wheel options.
I'm not familiar with the wheels you've mentioned. But, just because a dealer supplied this/that accessory or option doesn't necessarily qualify it for NCRS judging consideration. Things like undercoating, visor mirrors, cig lighter plug in components (eg. radar detectors) are and were routinely offered by dealers to new car purchasers but they weren't necessarily 'GM approved' items.
In that case, the item qualifies as a dealer/owner inspired vehicle configuration change which NCRS rules require a FULL deduction (originality and condition points) for. I'd be leery of accepting a seller's assertion that these particular wheels were GM approved for dealer option/accessory sale!- Top

Re: Ansen wheel question
Jack is correct. In the early 70's Hefner Chevrolet in Ft. Wayne, IN had a few new Corvettes on the lot with added paint stripes and wheels. I spoke with a salesman about the stripes and wheels. He told me their body shop would paint any stripe requested and parts dept. would obtain wheels requested. One car was red with silver leatherand stripes and another was blue with silver leather and stripes. They were not factory installed or as delivered to the dealer.- Top

Re: Ansen wheel question
John,
Thanks pardner. I had googled ansen wheels and thought that all that came up were bolt on wheels, not true knock-offs. I was expecting to see a K/O wheel with the 5 kidney slots. I now see the correct wheel on the Ebay link. I had not heard of Ansen K/O's before this thread. Now I know.
Best regards,- Top

Re: Ansen wheel question
Go up on the Corvette forum, there's a full set in great condition for sale now. Thery're really nice for the street and you won't see another set very often. A tad pricey but anything nice is. Rich- Top
