    Inatake manifold end seals

Can you tell me if the end seal tabs on a 63 were the same size on the front and back ? Was there a GM on both tabs?? I have got a set that has the GM on the rear seal, as it shows in the new judges manual but the front one is wider and only has a small circle on it no GM logo ??? Is this close enough for judging ????

    Thanks

The older GM gaskets that came packed in a complete set had the same end seal for both directions. Walking the scrap yards and seeing motors of the era that were untouched, retaining their original manifold seals, they have 'GM tabs' on both the front as well as the back.

Were all of the front/rear gaskets IDENTICAL in terms of their 'GM' emboss? Beats me...

When parts were churned out in the millions of units per annum level, it's my experience that there was probably MORE THAN ONE set of assy tools that made these 'identical' parts...

No, the rear seal tab is relatively large and rectangular sticking out at thr rear corner nearest to the driver. It is very easy for judges to see if they know what to look for. The front "GM" is located on a small semicircular tab that is very close to the outline of the edge of the intake and thus much more difficult to see.

i'm used to seeing the front tab being rectangular with a GM logo embossed, not a semi-circle, on the c-1's(exclucing the 55 265 ci sbc) and the early c-2's. mike

Could well be, all my experience with solid axle is large port '62. That should be the same as the question asked regarding a '63. I know the end gaskets on my '65 are the same as the ones on the '62, NOS GM.
