Just got my alternator back from the re-builder and noticed some variations with respect to the new JG. I believe the alt to be original to the car. According to the jg pgs. 110 & 111 the following items don't match the book.

1.Wiring harness is not secured to the back of the alt with a plastic plug. (attachment)

2.The fan is the type described for a 1964 alt. (attachment)

3.The date and part number placement should be for a earlier build date rather than a Jan. date. (Attachment)

I am a rather new member and could use some help. I plan to have the car judged when it is finished and want to have it as correct as possible.

In 1963 the alternator did not have the hole for the plastic wiring harness plug(63 only). The fan shown is used on the 64 -69 Corvettes. 1963 should have a zinc plated fan with all the blades having the same dimensions. The date code began the move from the slip ring half to the drive end in late 62. There was some crossover involved and the move wasnt complete until March. A January alternator could have been dated on the slip ring end(as your picture shows)
