    1986 Copper Metallic Paint

In '86 there were only 4 cars built with this exterior color Code 66.
How many of the 4 were automatics?
How many of the 4 were 4 Speeds?
How many of the 4 were coupes and convertibles?
Were any of them built as 4 speed convertibles?

To my knowledge, that information is not available from 1986 production records.

Applying the same statistics known for all 1986 production, which probably only guarantees that it will be wrong on such a small sample, the chances that any of the four were convertibles is 1 in 4.8; the chances that any of the four were convertibles with manual transmissions is 1 in 24.7. Pretty long odds in my opinion.

It will be an extremely rare car if you've found one, but I doubt even unreproachable provenance will make a lot of difference in it's value (JMHO). Before I bought one represented as such, I would want to see the documents and the original decal set. One thing is for certain...all 1986 convertibles were "pace car replicas"...regardless of color.

Actually, they did keep track of this kind of stuff.
The NCM has all the information, and are working on compiling it.

I'd bet that if you found a Corvette magazine from somewhere between May and Dec of 1986 you'd find the answer too.

I would bet it was in Vette Vues from that time frame. Now to just find a collector who is willing to look it up.

I remember one of the Chevrolet engineers ( I think it was Jim Miniker) driving one to the Cypress Gardens meet in January 1987. Parked it outside the host hotel and made a stir. If I look through my old pictures -- the ones with negatives and photos on paper, I might have a picture.

Ah, of course...if you can get an original build sheet for the NCM, you can easily learn the original specifications. Without a VIN, however, the possibilities to be compiled are going to get complicated pretty fast.

I have been searching for this Copper Color car and I found one on Craig's List on Long Island N.Y. It is an '87 Automatic Coupe with 16,000 miles.
In 1987 GM coincidentally produced 87 of these cars in this color.
Now I can ask the same questions as I did for the '86 model year.
Interesting scenarios on how they were ordered from the factory, but better odds to find a 4 speed convertible.
