    1968 Early/Late Seat Back Date

I own a June 12. 1968 build date car. Numbers on the engine, heads and all components under the hood that I have checked all support that date. Both door panels build dated early June on their back sides.

My interior is tobacco and has seats that have the lower seat back releases. A fleabay set of 68 seats currently for sale states that "early" seats were used until Nov 67 and then the later high releases were phased in. That doesn't seem to jive with my early seats which I thought were original.

Is the November 67 date the right date for phasing in the "later" design seats with the higher releases. or is this another fleabay error that should be ignored? I'm curious if my seats are now original or not.

    Thanks guys!

    Dan,

According to the JG, the seat back release lever was moved to the upper position around serial number 25,200.

This would probably be sometime in July 1968.

Thanks Anthony. 25,200 is well after my car's serial number so I feel better about the seats I have. I should have known better but..................

        Thanks again!

          Good answer, Dickie.

This advice probably applies to any unfamiliar seller, and some that you know well. Of course, they might be selling to help mankind...in that case, they still might not have their facts straight, but they're not likely trying to increase sales opportunities by misrepresentation.

My July 18 build is about 600 above that 25200 and has the high release.
