    Distributor Identification?

I HAVE A DISTRIBUTOR THAT I CANNOT FIND OUT WHAT IT CAME OFF OF. I REMOVED IT FROM A 57 CHEVY BEL-AIRE. IT IS A TACH DRIVE, DUAL POINT UNIT. IT IS MADE BY MALLORY. THE ID PLATE SAYS PART # YC-465-HP. CAST INTO THE SHAFT HOUSING IS THE NUMBER T310 C 465. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA WHAT THIS DISTRIBUTOR WAS FOR? DID ANY OTHER GM VEHICLES USE TACH DRIVE DISTRIBUTORS OTHER THAN THE CORVETTE?

It was designed to be used on any Chevrolet that needed a mechanical tach drive

I'd say it's just an old aftermarket-type tach drive distributor. The only Chevrolet model that I know of that used a tach drive-type distributor was Corvette. However, it's possible that those few passenger cars in the mid-50's that were equipped with FI also used a mechanical tach. I doubt it, but it's possible.

Being an aftermarket-type piece, I doubt very much that it was designed for a very specific application (like Delco-Remy distributors used on GM vehicles). It's more "generic" but, since it has tach drive, probably mostly intended for Corvettes.

Also, mechanical tachs were used as an aftermarket-type retrofit piece for all sorts of cars in the 50's and 60's. So, this distributor could also have been used for that sort of application.

YC-465-HP is for small & big block Corvette w/ tach drive. This a mechanical advance dual point "double-life" distributor. Fairly rare.

Take a look at some of the old Mallory catalog pages posted on this link -
          http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=449646

...and it appears that the "YC" designated Corvette on one of the pages, and also the "465" is used on the 68 Corvette dist. designation.
