    Hub caps for a '58

Are the repo dog dish hub caps pretty accurate, or are they just something to make do with and would be much better off looking for original caps? Are the wheels themselves different on the cars with full wheel covers over the ones with the dog dish caps?

    David,
The dogdish caps for the 58 Vettes with the 5 1/2in wheels and the lower model full size 58 passenger cars are the same caps (58 Impalas and Bel Airs got full wheel covers). Soooooooooooooo, DO NOT look for dog dish caps for a 58 Vette (unless, of course, you just enjoy paying 10 times the price). Look for caps for a 58 Biscayne or Delray!
Frequently, these kinds of caps can be found 1-2 at a time at the larger auto swap meets.
ANYTHING that is common between a pass car and Vette, NEVER tell the seller that you want it for a Vette, because the price automatically gets multiplied many times!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry but when I hear some asking weather to buy a repro or original parts I have to ask __WHY!! Is it because the original may need some work, it can cost a little more then a repro, it's to hard to find, it's not as pretty looking??? Real is real , most repro's are not correct as many people know ,so why spend money on them. I see buying repro's for weatherstripping ,seat covers, wiring and things like it because they are impossible to locate new . I'm not coming down on you , please don't take this personal I just vent now and then .
Tom is right go Chevy stay away from the word Corvette, there are so many parts that cross over to other GM cars , that's why people ask me how I found such a rare (Corvette) part NOS- think Chevy, Olds, Buick and so on first.

Absolutely no offense taken. I am helping a friend with his '58. He is the one actually questioning the hub caps. I am the guy that offers what I can to assist in it. I have learned, on the full wheel covers like on my '62, the price to quality difference is what would make me buy original covers. But, I am not spending my friends money, he is. I also have an original August '61,P&A 30b here that I use to cross over parts so that I don't have to ask for Corvette parts. It does make a huge $ difference!

I didn't know that reproductions of the dog dish caps were being made for these years. Can you tell me where you found them? Thanks.

I didn't actually look them up myself. The guy I am helping, asked me about them. Maybe they aren't available anymore! I should have looked before posting.
