there is not likely there is a Q jet in the world with the limiter caps still on unless it is in a museum.

I have seen them on carburetors (1972 , as I recall) when judging. I suspect i may not be alone in having seen Corvettes with idle screw limiter caps still installed. And there is a frequent poster here with a NOS bag of them -- or at least a photo of same.

Clem, those of us who judge more commonly deal with museum pieces than race cars.

I set the air/fuel screws (no caps) with a vacuum gauge last summer so they should be close. But I will try again. I have been reading that modern fuels can be hard on the old black rubber accelerator pumps. Hence my thought to go with a Viton version.

Thinking back to when this started I also changed from factory ported vacuum to manifold vacuum so I will have to re-visit that as well.

you are correct the new fuels hardened the black rubber pump cups and the viton is the way to go.

Yep, you'll find the factory original QJet limiters on my '71. As for that 'bag' of NOS parts, it's rather small these days and the part is a topic of discussion for the '70-72 JG manual team. To my knowlege (and both GM parts and service documentation), these were factory stock on '71-73 QJets that are NOT mentioned in either of the applicable JG books...

The PN for the QJet version of the idle limiter cap is 7042801. I'd upload pix but I can't. They're already posted in the '70-72 JG Team's chat room (private access) and the DB prevents posted picture duplication...

I always have a Plan B. This is it in the basement. Yes, aside from the colour (my NOM motor is black) everything there is correct 1974. That is a #7044206 carb (Carter mind you) for a 1974 truck appication. It may work, I do not know. I may just change things out and see what happens.

I wish the temps would go above 40*F so I could get on this issue. I want to drive in early May.
