    Leaking carb fitting

Now that I am putting my 1969 engine back together I will have to address a problem I have had. The original carb has a helicoil (I think that is how to spell it) inserted in the fuel conection of the carb. I have tried many fuel fittings that match the original but coldn't stop the leak, (I tried it on my Camaro). Anyone had conection problems like this?

    thanks

is the carb a Qjet and if so does the carb use a fitting that seals at the bottom of the fitting or at the nut end ??. if it seals at the bottom do you have the plastic gasket installed ?

GM had a service bulletin in 1970 on 1966-70 Quadrajet carburetors related to threads coming out when the fuel inlet nut was removed (fuel filter service). They had a special adapter kit with (from the carburetor outward):

gasket / fuel inlet adapter / fuel filter spring / fuel filter / gasket / inlet nut

The kit used a thread sealing and locking fluid for proper installation of the adapter to the carburetor. Once installed the kit was never to be removed when servicing the carb.

From your description it sounds like this carb has had the modification performed and the adapter kit has been removed - probably why the threads don't match up. Perhaps the repair kit is still available.

I'll try to post a picture of the kit.

My 69 has a Quadrajet carburetor, it has the inline fuel filter, does it still take the little filter in the carb fitting as shown?

            cal

            thanks
